Why do I need a new fence?

Updated: Aug 1, 2019

Why do you need a fence? Maybe you want to keep your kids and dogs in the yard and out of the street. Maybe you want to deter solicitors or burglars. Maybe you’re trying to increase your curb appeal and property value. Maybe you’re just tired of watching your neighbors play beer pong every weekend. All great reasons.

The best way to achieve whatever your fence goal may be is to schedule a free quote with First Rate Fence & Supply. We will come out to your home or business, measure out your fence site, and talk through your goal, style, and deadline. Together,  we’ll design a custom fence that addresses all your concerns.

If you’re in the first stages of planning, the best way to get started is to decide on the material and style you’d like. While this list is definitely not exhaustive, it’s a great place to start and lists our most popular options!

Material

A.) Wood

Wood is one of the most popular materials for a fence. A professionally built fence can last for decades with proper maintenance. Not only is it affordable and durable, it’s adaptable. A wood fence can be painted or stained to match your home or your HOA rules. A wood fence doesn’t just increase your home's curb appeal, it increases the property value as well. Many home buyers love a well built wood fence and if you have one when you decide to sell, it could set your house apart from the competition.

B.) Vinyl

While not as traditional as a wood fence, vinyl is still a great choice! First of all, vinyl fences require practically zero maintenance—just wash it off with some soap and water if it looks dirty. Vinyl fences are also non-toxic and recyclable! Furthermore, as every Coloradan knows, the weather can get pretty extreme here. With a vinyl fence you never have to worry about strong wind or extreme heat or cold.

C.) Chainlink

From dog runs to parks to backyards, there are plenty of situations where a chain link fence can be a great solution. Chain link fences are durable, affordable, highly adaptable, and they require little to no maintenance. Because they are made of steel, it’s impossible for pests, such as termites, to destroy them.

Style

A.) Privacy Fence

Privacy fences are definitely the most popular fence we build. They can be built in a range of sizes and styles and are typically made of cedar wood. They can be more traditional with a vertical picket design, modern with horizontal pickets, or unique with board on board pickets, lattice, trim, etc. The design of a wood fence is limited only by your imagination. A good privacy fence not only delineates your property but increases your security, keeps kids and dogs in the yard, reduces street noise and light, and adds curb appeal.

B.) Ranch Rail/Split Rail Fence

Split rail fencing is a great way to add character to your home. It’s often chosen to accent a more rustic home, a large farm yard, or a large country lot. This style of fence delineates your property without blocking your view.

C.) Picket Fence

A Picket fence is a charming way to keep people off your lawn. It adds friendly, retro character while still adding a layer of security and privacy to your home.
